One of the largest single construction projects ever undertaken by a UK higher-education institution: six buildings bringing together four engineering schools and two research institutes of the University of Manchester, gathered around MEC Hall — the beating heart of the ensemble. Handed over to the University in May 2021.
Patrick worked on the Stage 4–5 coordination of MEC Hall: the long structural spans, the daylight strategy for top-lit reading floors deep in plan, and the modular precast façades that had to read as consistent across all six buildings without making the ensemble feel institutional. The kind of work where architecture, building physics and contractor know-how all need to sit at the same table.
